Winter Tales

In Winter Tales Youri and Marie started a collaboration with Codarts university for the arts and Voces8, the internationally acclaimed choir. The piece itself is danced by 30 dancers from the Codarts Dance in Rotterdam. Youri and Marie wanted a focus on the esthetic of a large group of dancers, which had to suit to the beautiful and spacious location in which this piece was initially performed, The Saint Laurens Church.
Creation 2019 – Duration 1hr
CREDITS: Choreography: Marie Khatib-Shahidi and Youri Peters | Dance: Codarts Dancers | Live music: Voces8
Youri and Marie were triggered by the impressive location and everything it had to offer and they wanted to see how they could play with this and integrate it into the choreography. The depth of the church, the beautiful hall as a whole, the small ornaments all over when you zoom in, were translated into the piece. Youri and Marie invited the audience to look at the different perspectives both in the church and the choreography itself. Within the group, they worked to show a clear narrative for the individual dancers. The voices of Voces8 are accompanied by the musicians of De Doelen.
